Shore Thing Fishing Report, 7/29/2026

This week we're highlighting two Ts - trout and tripletail. Both are great fun, good eating, and plentiful in our waters.

Summer vacation is coming to a close, and the fishing has been amazing. The midday temperatures have been brutal, but that is part of the deal here in South Mississippi. Another part of the deal: You have to keep a close eye on the weather. Windy days and/or days where we are covered up in pop-up showers are probably not the best for a long run south.

Our offshore boat is still doing incredibly during the federal red snapper season. Captain Alex said that big live baits (pogies, mullet, or white trout) have definitely made a difference when targeting bigger red snappers.

If you are targeting big fish closer to shore, the bullheads, jack crevalle, and sharks are literally all over the place. We have seen fish right off the beach in Bay St. Louis. Cat Island is covered in sharks, and bull reds have been mixed in with large schools of pogies throughout the Mississippi Sound.

We have seen some big trout this past week. Several of our boats have caught fish at or over 25 inches. Seldom are these fish in big numbers, but it is still exhilarating to catch a trophy fish like that here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
